A 7th/8th grade Rally for Peace program was held on May 4, 2018 to bring awareness to Child Abuse and Human Trafficking. The rally provided students an opportunity to develop and support their claims based on what they’ve read, heard, and observed. Featured guest speakers included 7th/8th grade students, Human Trafficking Representative (Beth Sallcedo), Community Educator-Child Abuse (Laquinta Payne), and remarks from Krotz Springs Mayor (Carol Snyder), Opelousas Chief of Police (Donald Thompson).

On April 13th, we celebrated Character Day. Students were allowed to dress like their favorite book character for $1. All proceeds benefited the 1st -4th grade AR program.

KSE celebrated Bully Prevention Week (4/9 – 4/13) . Each morning students were provided with motivation speeches, poems, etc. that provided awareness and ways to prevent bullying.

On 3/9 the KSE girls/boys basketball team were combined into two teams (Orange and White) and played each other to help raise funds for the Athletic Department. Students were allowed to show their school spirit by wearing either orange or white shirts with jeans to support their team of choice.

The KSE Girls/Boys basketball team and Cheerleaders celebrated the year with a Athletic Field Trip to UL of Lafayette on 3/1 where they watched both the UL girls and boys take on Arkansas State. They were treated to front row floor seats for the girls game, got to participate in half-time activities, and take pictures with basketball players and UL Jazz Team/Cheerleaders.

8th Grade Career Day: The purpose of this educational forum was to provide students with hands-on exposure and an opportunity to experience the real world of college and careers. Career Awareness Day was aimed to connect students to speakers and leaders within various industries. The students met with representatives from Spherion, OGH, Placid, South Louisiana Community College - Opelousas Campus, Med Express, LA Dept. of Wildlife-Enforcement and EVERFI.

$10 Dollar General Gift Card Winners
KSE celebrated the 100th Day of school on 1/26/18. One student from each grade (K – 8th) was randomly selected to win a $10 Dollar General gift card. Congratulations to all the winners!!

A Pep Rally was held on 1/25 to help support our boys/girls basketball team as they prepared to play their last home game of the season. Some of the activities included: Half-Court Shot (8th grade girls vs. boys), Free Throw Challenge, Guess how M&M’s, Candy Throw, etc. At the end of the Pep Rally, 8th grade cheerleaders and basketball players where recognized and presented with a special KSE T-shirt. GO MUSTANGS!!

Students who demonstrated exemplary behavior for the 1st nine week period of school were invited to attend the “All American” PBIS Party on Friday, October 20th. Students received a treat and were allowed to deviate from school uniform by wearing Red, White, and Blue attire. Great job students!!

Krotz Springs Elementary- Mrs. Williams’ 8th grade students toured various sites to enhance their studies on Louisiana culture, Colonial times, and local history. They visited St. Landry Cemetery/St. Landry Catholic church for historical reenactments, they toured the Prudhomme House, and ended the day with a tour of Leveau Village (historical buildings) and the Orphan Train Museum. 
4-H Club Members
As a yearly service project, Krotz Springs Elementary's 7th/8th grade 4H members assisted the town employees at the Town of Krotz Springs Senior Citizen Fall Luncheon. Their duties included serving drinks and dessert, cleaning tables, delivering door prizes, and disassembling tables and cleanup.

Sparta Aquifer Project

The purpose of this assignment was to allow students to use creative methods to connect to the lesson. This group project exposed students to cause and effect as it related to the Sparta Aquifer. Furthermore, their organizational skills, creativity, and subject knowledge brought this project to life!

ROTC Cadets with KD students

Mission: Old Glory

Our Jr. ROTC cadets are on a mission to help KSE raise money for a new school flag pole and flag. Fundraising for Mission: Old Glory started on Friday, 9/8 and will continue throughout the month of September. Students are given an opportunity to place their monetary donations in an army helmet held by our Jr. ROTC cadets each morning during assembly. If you would like to help fund our Mission: Old Glory project please contact Coach James Douget at 337-566-3585.

They also learned about 3 different types of bridges, Arch, Beam, and Suspension bridges. They were required to choose one of the 3 types to construct and write the steps and materials they used to build it.

In an effort to positively get our KSE students back in the swing of things we kicked off the year with a “Sports” themed PBIS party. Students were allowed to wear their favorite team shirt or jersey and denim bottoms. We wanted to remind our KSE Mustangs what a GRANDSLAM they are and to always remember to be responsible, respectful, and safe! A drawing was held during general assembly, where (3) students from each grade level (Pre-K – 8th ) had a chance to win free snacks or a McDonald’s gift card.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KSE 4H CLUB!

Our club received the “SUPERIOR 4H CLUB” award from the St. Landry Parish Extension Office! This is the highest club award that can be obtained based on member participation and awards won throughout the 2016-2017 school year!

*Guest speaker who lived in Russia for 10 years as a missionary came to speak the kids about the Russian culture. She brought Russian toys, pictures of architecture, hand made scarfs, and shared the Russian alphabets.
